2010 Windsor 6's Launched

It is with great delight that Windsor CC is proud to announce the launch of the 2nd Annual 6-a-side tournament, the Windsor 6's. This exciting tournament saw 14 teams compete in 2009 for the initial trophy, with Aldershot ousting Windsor's own Under 15 side in the final.

The 2010 version is set to be bigger and better, with a Windsor Cricket Club introducing a new headline sponsor for the event in the form of Stoke Park. This partnership will see Stoke Park be a major part of the day, providing auction prizes, individual prizes for each player as well as entering a team into the competition.

As the event grows, so we hope will the number of teams, with the desire to have 20 teams enter the competition in 2010. This will see the same fun-packed day as last year, with an Sporting Auction, Raffle, Bar and BBQ. In addition there will be goody bags for all entrants to the event.

Windsor CC Cricket force weekend

Dear Club members

Windsor CC is hosting its annual tidy up day on the weekend of the 27th and 28th March

This weekend is a crucial date in the WCC calendar, as its our only oportunity to repair and renovate the club in perparation for the busy season ahead. These jobs require as many of you volunteering as possible over the weekend, as these cannot be completed by just a few people....... many hands make light work.

Remember this is your cricket club, and if you want it to look smart and be tidy and in good condition for the season, its up to you to pull your weight

Important jobs over the weekend include:

repair of covers, sightscreen painting, tidy and fix public and portable nets, C2 pavilion tidy paint and repair, Power washing steps & balcony, Tidy up scorebox, Clear up outside between clubhouses, Clear rubbish from under stairs and chuck old chairs out

The chairman has indicated in the AGM that this season we want to increase the profile of our club even futher, and increase hiring oportunities, and this can only be done if our facilities are up to scratch

please contact James Jordan or Mark Huggins for details of the activities on each day and i am sure there will be a pint and some snacks for your efforts

Updated Stats in Players Section

The players section of the website has now been updated with all the information from the 2009 season. We used a total of 112 players last year of which 38 were new to the club (at least at senior level) which is a great achievement and one which would be the envy of many clubs.

The club in it's history has manged to score a total of 267,489 runs in it's history, taking 11,735 wickets along the way. The most surprising aspect however is that we have managed to cling onto 5,617 catches!

The top 20 batsmen (total runs scored), bowlers (total wickets) and fielders (total catches - includes wicket keepers) is shown in this text file.

Windsor CC '100' club 2010

Dear all

Windsor CC will be running a brand new '100 club' this season.

Each ticket costs £10, and you get to choose your own number for the whole season. There will be 4 prize draws in total in 2010, after the Sat league games: May 29th, June 26th, July 24th and Aug 28th

In Each prize draw, there will be 4 prizes awarded: 1st = £75, 2nd = £25, 3rd = £15 and 4th = £10

All the proceeds of the 100 club will go directly into bolstering the club coffers

Do you need any new equipment for the 2010 season???

on Thursday 25th of Feb, our WCC official cricket kit supplier, Hawkinsport, will be offering WCC members 15% discount off all cricket equipment bought in store that evening.

This includes all cricket brands in stock and applies to bats, pads, gloves, helmets, boots etc etc.

To gain your discount, please bring with you your 2009 WCC membership card (i will be there just in case to verify who you are!)

You can also place orders for the 2010 WCC Canterbury of New Zealand official playing kit and off field social and training wear..... (the discount does not apply to these items). I will be handing out images and price lists of the 2010 kit at the AGM in a few weeks time and posting the playing kit on the website.

Fantastic Weekend for Windsor CC

Windsor Cricket Club celebrated a fantastic season with their 2009 Cricket Weekend, which commenced on Friday 21st August. The weekend saw the beginning of a new regular fixture on the local sporting calendar, the realisation of a club’s promise and culmination of 4 years of hard work.

Windsor 6's
The weekend started with the club’s first annual Windsor 6’s Tournament on Friday 21st August. The 6-a-side tournament saw 14 teams from far and wide compete to be the first winners of the Windsor 6’s Trophy. Teams came from far and wide and after a fiercely competitive day say a final contested by Aldershot Cricket Club and Windsor Cricket Club’s own Under 15 side. In close fought game, Aldershot managed to beat the cream of Windsor’s youth, but have laid down a marker for next year as I am sure the rivalry will be continued.

Positive news that the event raised a considerable amount for the coaching development fund and further raised the club's and event profile. Further details of the event, with photos, results and details of how to enter in 2010 will be available from windsorcc.com shorlty.

1st Team win promotion to Division 1
Saturday will see the club’s first team defeat Bagshot in a Thames Valley Cricket League Division 2A encounter and gain promotion to the top Division of the league. With Windsor runaway leaders at the top of the league, this game was the crowning achievement for Wes Nichols and his team as they increased their lead to an unassailable 75 points (on bitter rivals Datchet) at the top of the league with two games to go.

Presidents Day and Net Opening
The weekend concluded with the official opening of the new outdoor net facilities at the club’s annual President’s Day on Sunday 23rd August. This event marked the completion of an ambitious project by the club that has taken in 4 years of planning and fund raising. The £40,000 facility was opened by Club President Tony Monk, along with Mark Roche (ECB Cricket Development Officer for Berkshire) and Cecil Fright (Chairman of the Berkshire Cricket Board).

The final key link in the chain of this development has been the support of the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), who donated over £30,000 towards the net’s creation. This was as a result of the club reaching and meeting the criteria to obtain the ECB Club Mark award, which recognises clubs that are looking to encourage cricket’s development in the local community. As an ECB focus club, Windsor CC is striving to raise the profile of the sport in the local area by offering the best facilities and coaching for development of young cricketers. The target is to make the already popular colts section the best in the area.

To also mark the event, a game was played between a current Windsor CC side (made up mostly of Under-25 players) and a team of former Windsor CC players. In the closely fought match, the game was won by the current Windsor CC side with notable performances by Ben Harris, Chris Kellard, George Gould and Kristian Baumgartner.

Finally to help commemorate the event and as a sign of sporting solidarity, Barclays allowed the Football Premier League Trophy to be on display at the club during the game. This allowed spectators of the President’s Day match and newcomers to the club, to have their photo taken with the trophy whilst the game is in play and a chance to look around the impressive new facilities.

With England also regaining the Ashes during the day on Sunday, the weekend was crowned off with a fantastic result (for nearly all Windsor CC Members).

Windor Royals in to the T20 final!!!

Hi all

Windsor Royals (the Twenty20 senior side) have made the final of the East Berks T20 Evening League. This game is to be played against Windsor Great Park at Braywood Cricket Club on Wednesday 12th August starting at 6pm.

For those of you that fancy coming along and supporting the team you can obtain directions from the Braywood CC website http://www.braywoodcricketclub.co.uk/ .

I hope to see a few of you there as we attempt to retain the title that we won last year. After the game the team will be dining out at our sponsor, The Viceroy, all club members are most welcome to join us.

Update on Canterbury of NZ

Dear members

the following statement appeared on the JD Sports website yesterday:

Leisurewear retailer JD Sports has rescued the European arm of sports clothing company Canterbury, raising hopes that it will revive some of the firm's sponsorship deals.

JD bought the trade and assets of the division, based in Stockport, Cheshire, for an undisclosed sum in a deal that could secure 50 jobs.

The firm is also buying the global Canterbury brand for £6.5m.

JD executive chairman Peter Cowgill said: "We are delighted with the acquisition of the Canterbury brand, which will further diversify the group's overall interests in the sports and related leisurewear markets."

I have been in touch with Hawkins sport to understand what communication has been sent by Canterbury to its customers, and what the plans are to keep producing cricket team wear. I will update everyone when i have some feedback that CCC will still be able to supply cricket shirts

Dear club members, as you may have seen in the press, the UK arm of Canterbury of NZ has gone into administration.

I had a meeting with Hawkins sport wednesday evening to discuss what communication they had had from Canterbury of NZ, and review our outstanding orders of kit.

For those who are awaiting items such as t shirts, polo's and hoodies, we are just waiting to see if an investment group is going to buy CCC and run it as an ongoing concern. If so we believe the standard items of clothing that we have chosen will then become available again. Rest assured, if CCC cease to exist completely, and the items do not become available, Hawkins can refund you all your money.

In the mean time, we have 'ear marked' what playing shirts we know are on the 'open market' and with wholesalers, and have asked Hawkins to confirm number of shirts and sizes available. Once I have this, and if you want to order shirts, please give me the money as I will probably place one order direct with Hawkins, to get as many shirts as we can into stock ASAP, and we will keep them at the club. I hope we will be able to source enough to keep us in stock through season 2010.

*Caps are not affected by this situation, as they are standards made by Albion, so please continue to order from Hawkins

*Jumpers are not affected by this situation, as they are standards made by a specialist supplier, so please continue to order from Hawkins.

The Inaugural Windsor 6's is launched

Windsor Cricket Club is proud to launch their new cricket tournament open to all cricket lovers.

When: Friday 21st August 2009

Where: The Home Park, Windsor

The aim of the tournament is to mark the end of another busy Windsor Cricket Season with a festival of cricket in front of Windsor's famous castle. The event is open to all cricket teams, whether they be a cricket club, social team, corporate organisation or merely a group of friends.

- Entrance Fee of £60 per team (includes food vouchers)

- 20 team limit has been set - (with places still available, first come first served)

- Raffle
- Sporting Memorabilla Auction

- The club bar will be open all day, with the 5th Test live on the big screen.

Annual Twenty20

Dear club members

On Friday the 12th June, WCC will host its annual 'T20 interclub' game.

Slowly running out of ideas of how to split the club in half (Windsor Vics vs Windsor and Eton, Under 25 vs over 25, Single vs married, Windsor born vs. moved to the area etc etc) we have hit on a popular theme......

People who have been to the Bronx and those who have never sampled the delights of the legendary late night club!

Math starts at 6pm. Both teams will be in coloured shirts and white balls will be used. Full T20 rules will apply. There will be music throughout the game from batsmens songs to tunes for hitting a 4 or a six. There will be a BBQ on the Balcony, and the bar will be open till 11.30pm. i am told Birchy will be recreating the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the Bronx in our very own bar......!

All are welcome to come and watch this fun and fast version of the game and to see if Old Brononinas XI's Experience can overcome the Non Bronxus XI's youthful eagerness!

Dear club members, It is with deep regret that I post this update

The company that owns the Sporting Spirit website, and which manages our orders and embroidery of WCC kit has gone into administration. This is company buys in bulk from Canterbury, and takes orders and embroiders to order for many clubs. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE ANY MORE ORDERS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

I am currently investigating how many orders are outstanding to which individuals money and items are owed.

I would also ask if each person who has ordered clothing AND WHO IS STILL AWAITING ITEMS, please send me an email with the items and cash value of what you are waiting for.

This in no way is linked to Canterbury of NZ, which is a separate company. I have asked Canterbury to advise of another embroidery supplier who can supply the same items of kit for us going forward, or if they can supply direct. As the garments are ‘standards’ there should be no issue of designs mismatching etc. Hopefully this new supplier will be up and running ASAP.

The sales manager of sporting spirit assures me he did not know of the ‘behind the scenes’ issues the directors had with the company finances.

I will send you all an email update as soon as I have got one, and I have discussed with James Jordan the issues we face

Call all club members,

Saturday 9th May will see the annual team photograph session at the club.

We are meeting at 11am so as to have the photos prior to the away teams departing. So please ensure your whites are clean and that you are wearing Windsor CC clothing for the photos.

In terms of clothing, it is part of the club’s code of conduct that all 1st and 2nd team players should be wearing only club colours at all times during the games. Windsor Cricket Club looks forward to a big season

Saturday 9th May sees a big day in Windsor Cricket Club recent history as we look to field 5 teams in the Thames Valley Cricket League. Sarab Oberoi will lead his all-new 5th team out onto the field of Division 9 battle as the expansion of the club continues.

In the first eleven, Wes Nichols enters his second season in charge full of expectation for his young side. With a balance of experience and youth, the premier Windsor side possesses a fine balanced look with Nichols enjoying many different bowling options and an attacking batting line-up. Coupled with this is the fact that the team is arguably the best fielding side in the division. This blend will see Windsor entering its fourth consecutive campaign in Division 2A playing against local rivals of Datchet and Burnham 2’s.

The second eleven has a new captain in Brian Davis, who hopes to make use of his experience to help guide the side towards a return to Division 3.The aim will be about getting the most out of the senior players within the core of the team whilst looking to develop the games of club’s talented youth core.

The third and fourth elevens will also continue to help develop the club in similar vein. The third team will start the season in level 6, after gaining promotion last season through the success of the 4th team. With the side containing a wealth of experience, a lot is expected of the 3rd XI and it is hoped that the recent addition of new seamers will help provide captain Richard Noble with a balance bowling attack to support the strong batting. Andrew Doree’s 4th team will look to repeat the feat of 2008 and aim to win their division once again. After convincingly winning their league in 2008, league rules saw them remain in the same division whilst the third team enjoyed their promotion. The aim here will be repeating last year’s feat.

The Windsor Cricket Club colts section continues to enjoy great success and is expanding every season. The testament to this is the volume of young cricketers (under 9 years old) who train on a Saturday morning. Many of those youngsters looking to emulate their senior counterparts in the future and play in league cricket on a Saturday afternoon. On the whole the club runs sides from age 8 through to 17 and all are welcome.

Annual Subscriptions are now due!

Just as a gentle reminder to all cricket club members, the date for which the annual subscriptions are due is Saturday 9th May (the first Thams Valley League game of the season). This is date when the discounted offer of £130 expires.

All players who have played prior to this date will be liable to pay the full amount if payment is made after May 9th.

Any players that play their first game in parrallel with the first league game may be entitled to extra grace period, this will need to be discussed / negotiated with Chris Smith.

This change was proposed and approved at the Annual General Meeting in January by an overwhelming majority.

If anyone has any querries with regards this, please ask Chris Smith, James Jordan or their respective team captain.

New Windsor Cricket Kit 2009

Dear club members

As some of you may know, I have been working hard on securing a new supplier of WCC kit for the 09/10 seasons. We had Smasher for a few years (good quality, rubbish service), and the last couple of years we have been buying from Signature sports (good service, not the right designs/ colours). Both business models are that we have bespoke clothing designed and made in bulk orders only that are on a 10 week lead-time from the far east!

After much searching and negotiating, we have secured our new kit from the top quality and innovative brand Canterbury of NZ!! We have secured ‘standard’ CCC items that are available to be embroidered and delivered very quickly as many of them will be in stock! I hope you agree that the new items look great and will make all WCC players look the part! Adults and colts sizes are available in all the different items.

Please find below the website link for ordering our new playing, training and social clothing, as WCC will NOT be holding any stock at the club anymore, you have to take responsibility to order the kit yourselves. Please can I remind you of the ‘players code of conduct’ re items of cricket clothing that are allowed or permitted to be worn when playing for WCC. Also all captains have pledged to encourage all players to buy the new kit

Please click on www.sportingspirit.co.uk and scroll down on the left hand side to find the Windsor CC tab, and there you will find all the items. As long as you have placed your order by Wednesday, the shirts etc will be embroidered on the Thursday, and if you have selected next day delivery, this will turn up on the Friday.

Winter nets

Senior indoor nets start this coming Sunday afternoon, 11th Jan at Windsor Boys School, from 3pm till 5pm. All are welcome and a small contribution (prob £3 ish) will be required to be paid before you start netting on the night in cash

Colts nets starts in earnest aswell on Saturday 10th Jan at 2pm! Please find attached a copy of the winter nets flyer with dates and times for colts training, please can parents make the effort to get copies of the flyer out to their respective schools and email friends to ensure a good attendance. Please contact Tim Dadd, Martin Tuthill or James Jordan with any queries (The 10 sessions are structured and progressive, and run by ECB coaches)

Windsor CC awarded 'clubmark'

Its is with great pleasure that Windsor CC announces that it has been awarded 'ECB clubmark' status.

Thanks have to go to Richard Endacott for his work in collating all the information and for all the other contributers, to ensure this went through smoothly. WCC had to ensure that it met lots of criteria in how the club is managed and run by its comitee and the players and other members.

This is great news for WCC, and means that we have been recognised as a leading club in the local area, and recognition of all the hard work put in to running a club of increasing size!

More details will be released on what this news actually means for WCC going forwards......

Phil Bullock, chairman of Windsor CC, accepts the player of the month award at Royal Windsor Racecourse on behalf of Wes Nicolls (1st XI Captain)

The racecourse kindly reward the WCC senior player of the month with 4 club enclosure tickets and, in the 2008 season so far, Wes Nicols and Kevin Condon have recieved this award.

Congrats to the 2008 Pool and Darts Champions!

Thanks to those of you that turned up on Friday night to compete in the hotly anticipated 'WCC 2008 Winner takes all Pool and darts competition' ( and many thanks to Ali for her help with the delicious BBQ! which kept the 'athletes' nourished throughout the night!)

11 entrants/ athletes played in each sport (yes Westo, pool and darts are in fact sports played by sportsmen!) and the group matches were hotly contessed affairs with a best of 3 for each person, to decide the winner of each group.

The deciders (when the group stages ended in ties) required some innovative contests (nearest bullseye / white ball nearest the line) and the semi finals then became knockout affais, with some big darts and some amazing shots on the pool table. As time was called at the bar the semi fianls were still in progress and the pressure was building.....

Alex Hill (the rank outsider, and he knew it) took on Richard Gregory in the darts final, with Alex knowing his very limited darts skills would be put to the st in the 501 single frame decider. With Rich having the first 'out' and Hill trailing, it was a complete shock that Hill was able to hit the double 2 and win the £55 prize pot!

The Pool final was played between David Easter and Amit Johal, who had both been patiently waiting in the bar all evening whist all the various deciding matches were played out. Neither of them expected thier final to start at 11.20 pm! David put up a brave fight, but Amit showed calm and restrain, playing some lovely shots on the poor surface, to comfortably win the £55 prize

Windsor u14s, after an up and down league campaign (played 7 won 6, lost 1), played out the closing stages of the West Surrey Youth League over the weekend.

On Saturday morning at a bright but breezy Home Park the boys took on Horsley & Send, a team they hadn't played before, in the semi-final. Batting first on a drying strip Windsor made 134 in their 20 overs with Kristan top scoring with a well paced 46 not out. In make or break games such as this, the team know what they have to do in order to win games and took to the field confident they could keep Horsley & Send pegged back behind the required run rate. The Windsor bowlers took to their task well with Jack & Kristan being particularly miserly and Oli bowling his customary low scoring final over which ensured Horsley & Send were restricted to 119. The wickets were shared between the 6 bowlers used and with good all-round fielding and 2 run outs Windsor were in good shape for the final.

The final took place at the picturesque Whiteley Village ground on Monday evening in pleasant sunshine against 2 times previous winners Sunbury. Windsor were the clear underdogs, but batting first on a firm track with a good outfield they were fast out of the traps and dominated the Sunbury bowling. Bradley scored quickly and heavily to make 48, finally out caught trying to get past the magic 50. His fellow opener, Jack, also scored well with 33. All the batsmen's' running between the wickets was exceptional, many singles were made into 2s and 2s into 3s. The following batsmen all played their part by pushing the fielders at every possible opportunity and with the help of 26 extras a total of 131 was made. Before the game Windsor would have settled for 120, so they felt they were in with a shout of winning the match and the league.

The Windsor bowlers carried on where the batsmen had left off, good tight bowling, very few extras, backed up by some determined fielding and a couple of excellent run outs. Sunbury started quickly but soon tailed off when the relentless Windsor pressure began to tell. Once their in-form opener, Elliot Shaw had to retire on 51, Windsor began to scent victory and they were not to be disappointed. Wickets fell at 72, 73, 73, 74, 77 & 77 to give Windsor a well deserved victory inside 17 overs.

After the team had picked themselves up following their wild celebrations on the fall of the final Sunbury wicket, captain Rhys Bryant was presented with the winning trophy and each player received their winners medal.

With thanks to Mark & David for managing them this season, the boys are now looking forward to taking part in The Summer League, following this well deserved victory.

Kevin Condon scored 241 league runs in June which included his maiden century for Windsor with 117 v Chiswick & Latymer. The 3rd XI won all 4 league games in June in which he played, 3 of them in run chases. He shared in 2 large partnerships in these games; 160 with Mark Huggins for the 2nd wicket versus Wycombe Dragons & 228 with Vishal Nair for the 1st wicket against Chiswick & Latymer.

This year’s Presidents game with take the form of a very auspicious Tour Match, as Windsor Cricket Club welcome Kowloon CC of Hong Kong to the Home Park. With them playing against some real competition on their tour, they requested a game at Windsor to play some quality cricket in front of the famous old castle.

The day is designed to be a true “Club Day” and alongside the main 1st team game, there will be a colt’s match played on C2. There are plans to have entertainment during the match, stalls and food and drink around the ground. Hopefully the weather and the cricket will be great and lead to a great day all round.

Windsor CC welcome Weston to the fold

Last Saturday (21st April), saw Windsor welcome their newest overseas recruit to his first game on the beautiful surroundings of The Home Park. Adam Weston, a native of Brisbane in Australia, arrived in the country just last week to spend the summer plying his trade in the Royal Borough and the Thames Valley League. Primarily recruited to fill the shoes of Abe Smith, Adam looks set at present to be playing as a top three batsman in the 2nd team on a Saturday (under new captain Alex Hill) and with the first team on a Sunday. He certainly settled in quickly, scoring 64 on his debut this weekend.

Adam joins a long line of former Diggers CC players (based in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales) who have visited our shores to take a place with Windsor. Many Diggers have seen success at Windsor and the introduction of Adam further highlights the strong links that the two clubs have forged over the past decade. Indeed, the cup competition between the two clubs looks set to be resurrected this summer, as the Fitzroy Cup, is set to be played for the first time in 4 years.

Further to this, Windsor sees the return of fellow Aussie Wes Nichols for his second season at The Home Park. He will again be looking to help develop and strengthen the first team, primarily through his play, but also through assisting club captain Craig Bird as his vice captain on a Saturday. Further to this he has taken over the reigns of skippering the Sunday first XI and looking to help further develop the promising young players that are coming through the ranks.

Completing the overseas triumberent and also returning for his second season is Brendan Kemp. The cousin of current South African international Justin, Brendan adds further strength to playing ranks and provides the club with an excellent all-rounder from which to pick. Indeed, with this the club has three players that could easily fill the overseas birth in the top team and provide a wealth of talent to pick from.

Just to confirm the details stated at the AGM on Thursday with regards the Winter Nets. They start this weekend and the details are as follows:

Langley Grammar School (directions to school)

Saturday 3rd Feb: 12pm to 2pm - 2 nets
Saturday 10th Feb: 12pm to 2pm - 2 nets

Sunday 18th Feb till Sunday 1st April: 2pm to 4pm - All 4 nets

Subs for the nets will be £3 as with previous winters.

I am told that the facilities are second to none and that we shouldn't have the lighting issues as we have previously. The reason for the strange early scheduling is availability and also our desire to put them back on a weekend. Sunday's have been seen as the best day to train due to work commitments and timing in the week (plus it works out cheaper)

Can you confirm to the captains (i.e. Craig, Alex, Rich etc.) your availability and when you will be able to attend.

Olli Birch has proposed that he will organise a 5 day cricket tour of the South coast this season.

Proposal is something along these lines:

-A week in June TBC-Tour from Sunday am till Friday afternoon on a mini bus or the ‘fun bus’
-Accommodation will be cheap ‘Travellodge’ style hotel or cheap B&B near town centre and bars!
-3 or 4 x 40 over win or loose Matches against town or Uni sides to be held on Monday, Tues, Wed and Thursday
- (drive back Friday afternoon in time for Sat league matches)
-Three or 4 towns visited along the Sussex coast (to be selected from Eastbourne, Brighton, Worthing, Arundel, Chichester, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth etc
-Cost TBC
*If anyone just wants to drive down for one night and one match this is fine also, but we need a minimum of 13 players that will do at least 4 days to make the trip worth while.....

Windsor 4th XI Gain Promotion

Congratulations need to go to Charles Light, Tim Houghton and the team for all their hard work on gaining promotion back to the 6th Division for next season. Promotion was achieved with the fine victory away at Falkland last weekend, which included a massive 110 not out by Damian Bradbury.

More than that, the teams success has been built mainly on the achievements of the younger members of the club such as Ricky Saunders, Tom Hartridge and John Holmes working with the established members of the team in Scott Martin, Dan Brown, Charles Light and Hurricane Houghton.

If you see any of the 4th team boys out and about over the weekend, be sure to give them your congratulations.

Windsor CC “Lord’s it” for the day

After many months of hard work and preparation, the visit of Mike Gatting’s Lord’s Taverners team to Windsor Cricket Club, was a fabulous success this past Sunday and saw a huge swath of sponsors, players and spectators enjoy a fabulous day’s cricket. A star-studded team of Taverners were entertained to a tea by the marvellous surroundings of the town’s premier club.

Upon winning the toss, the Taverners chose to bat first. Opening bowlers for the Taverners were Andrew Green (of Radio 4 fame) and Vince Wells (Former England One-Day international), who both found exaggerated movement and had Windsor regular openers Davis and Bird feeling for the ball in a nervy start. Davis was unlucky to be first to go, adjudged lbw despite a very audible inside edge off Green. New man Smith didn’t hang around either as an overambitious swish to leg saw him bowled by a Green away swinger. Green then left proceedings to avoid bowling the entire Windsor side out. Huggins departed shortly after for the second duck of the innings to a brute of a leg cutter from Wells and when Bullock departed to Salmon shortly after, Windsor were in deep trouble at 24 for 4. A brief cameo from skipper Bird was cut short by a top edge from International rugby referee Chris White. This brought Birch to the crease to join Noble in an innings changing partnership.

Both started nervously and would find runs hard to come by. Chris Tarrant in particular finding movement off the seam. The introduction of Jack Russell though seemed to create the spark need as Birch began to play his usual domineering game. Hitting a number of fours and sixes, he proceeded to score a marvellous fifty of just 34 balls. Finally perishing to a fantastic catch by Graham Roope on the boundary for 63 off Mike Gatting. Noble also fell shortly afterwards for a fine 38, but celebrated the knock with a lap of honour around the ground.

Windsor’s innings finally closed on 160 all out two overs early when Kellard played on to Gatting. A below par total and with the knowledge that two former first-class stars were opening for the Taverners, a tough task was ahead to defend it.

Opening bowlers Edge and Birch bowled well in the early overs and were unlucky not to remove the class Taverners openers. Anything slightly loose was punished and the ball raced about the field with aplomb from both Hinks and Roope’s bat. The pair managed to take the score to around 80 before Roope was first to go, caught well on the boundary by Condon. Hinks, after giving a number of chances finally fell stumped to Smith when on 61, wandering out of his crease in an attempt to take a phone call. This brought Nick Hancock to the crease to join and already set Paul Tisdale (Exeter FC’s new manager).

The introduction of Kellard at the River End would put a brake on the Taverners innings. First removing Tisdale through a fine skied catch taken by Hill in front of a well-lubricated beer tent, then through the bamboozling of Hancock, caught by Noble at mid-wicket. With Chris White joining Jack Russell at the crease, Windsor sensed the opportunity to take a few prize scalps. Indeed when Russell tried to late-cut a sharp spinning delivery off Smith, Davis took a fine catch stood up to the stumps to remove the former England keeper. When White and Salmon both departed to Kellard’s spin, new batsman Chris Tarrant, was joined by former England skipper Mike Gatting. Memories of 1993 and Old Trafford were re-born as Kellard attempted to pull a Warne on Gatting, and narrowly missed a five-for when a sharp turner just missed his outside edge.

Some entertaining running by Tarrant and Gatting, along with the usual banter saw the Taverners close on victory. Then a mighty swing of the bat from Tarrant saw Smith bemused as he was sent back over his head for 6. Another fine swish to fine leg saw the winning runs come and the Taverners closed out the game with 4 overs to spare.

A wonderful day was capped by the presentation ceremony after the game. Speeches from headline sponsor FM Global and Tony Monk was followed by the presentation of the winner’s Trophy to Mike Gatting. The man of the match award, sponsored by FM Global, went to 16 year-old Windsor spinner Chris Kellard for his match figures of 4 for 13 off 6 overs, with 2 maidens.

East Berkshire 96 for 6; 20 Overs (Kumar 56)
Windsor 88 for 9 ; 20 Overs

Earlier, the first game of the day saw East Berkshire Under 14’s take on a Windsor CC Under 14 side in a Twenty-20 game. Wearing coloured polo shirts, imitating the pro version of the game, the game was played in the carnival style of the first class game with live music and colour commentary from Windsor CC’s own Wes Nichols.

East Berkshire batted first and were immediately under pressure as good Windsor bowling from Oli Jordan and Asif pegged them back early on. The wicket of Castledene though only brought Kumar to the crease to begin a vital innings. With the Windsor bowlers consistently dropping short, Kumar punished the bowling with sumptuous cuts and pulls of the back foot. Ably support by King and Zaman, Kumar maintained a good run rate and passed a deserved fifty before holing out in the pursuit of quick runs for 56. Good late bowling from Khan and Jordan prevented East Berkshire passing 100. A calamitous last ball run out saw the innings close at 96 off their 20 overs.

After a variety of interviews at the mid-innings break, including a chat with the East Berkshire star Kumar, Windsor began their pursuit of the total in a similar vain to the East Berkshire innings. Tight bowling from Yasin and Ishaq pegged Windsor back and saw early wickets fall. Only skipper Nair managed to right the ship before he too fell, this time to bowling of King. A brief fight back from Sam Jordan brought Windsor back into the game, but when he perished to Mehmood, the game looked up. But with the crowd building around the enclosed ground, the young East Berkshire team seemed to struggle with nerves whilst trying to close the game out and through extras, Windsor found themselves needing 11 runs off the last over. A superb last over from Gurveer saw East Berks home though to win by 9 runs.

After the match, the winners and runners-up were presented medals by Mike Gatting and Tony Monk (respective Lord’s Taverners and Windsor CC presidents) and East Berkshire star Kumar was presented with the winning trophy for the day. In addition, Windsor Cricket Club junior coaches James Jordan and Keith Saynor received a junior kit bag from Mike Gatting and the Lord’s Taverners.

All in all the day was an over-whelming success, with players, sponsors, celebrities and colts all enjoying a fantastic festival of cricket on the Home Park. A crowd of over 1000 were entertained all day and calls have already been made by many to repeat the event in years to come.

Ground Tidy Day - Friday 14th April

The annual opportunity to show off the Charlie Dimmocks or Handy Andy's amongst all club members. From around 10am on Friday, Foreman Wiggers will be assigning the jobs to all able bodied attendees. Doesn't matter how skilful you are, there will be something for you to do.

Please come along and assist in making the club look as great as ever for the start of the season. The more members the merrier, plus the more will get done. Plus the Bar is open and the sun is bound to be out.

Another Windsor tradition occurs this coming Saturday as the Inter-club game gives everyone their first chance to feel leather on willow or palm. Please advise availabilities to Warren or Chris.

Garry will also be doing an Indian beer promotion (Cobra/ Kingfisher or similar) to really get us in the mood. As you can see, a lot of effort is going into to starting the season on a high note. Plus with the Taverners game coming in the summer, 2006 promises to be biggest year for Windsor CC yet. It’s that time of year when we all need to muck and help get the ground in pristine shape for the start of the season. Whether you are a Handy Andy or closet Charlie Dimmock, you can rest assured that Wiggers will find you a job to do.

The day kicks off at 10am, ideal for the post-Cheese and Wine hangovers. Sheila and Kitch will be serving us our Good Friday fair for lunch, and their may even be a couple of sneaky pints knocking around.

So come along and help make the club the pride of the Thames Valley. The more we do on Friday, the less has to be done during the season.

Windsor CC Newsletter Spring 2005 (Abridged version)

Windsor Cricket Club: 10 not out….
The eleventh annual general meeting marked the ten year anniversary of the formation of Windsor Cricket Club.
The club, formed out of the amalgamation of Windsor Victoria and Windsor and Eton cricket clubs, has gone from strength to strength in this time. With the first team in the Thames Valley League 1st Division
With this in mind, club chairman Craig Kitching took the opportunity to congratulate the membership and committee for helping to build such a strong club. He also made it clear that Windsor CC is now a club alone, the amalgamation is a distant memory.
Financially the club is strong, with the opening of the club in the winter a relative success. This needs to be built on going forward with improved attendance of the social events (see Social for more news)
As the club has grown, the success has come along. The back to back promotions of the 1st XI. The near misses of the 2nd XI and the recent success of the 4th XI bears the fruit of a strong club.
With this in mind he highlighted the way forward for the club lies strongly with developing the youth. Making sure the next generation of Windsor cricketer is help to develop by the current senior members of the club.
This will continue to be the theme in the 2005 season as the club celebrates the 10 year anniversary. We are planning a number of events for the celebration so look out for news in the next edition of the newsletter and on club notice boards.

The Danger Zone - “There ain’t no motion in the ocean baby!”
A new section for the 2005 season is to be “The Danger Zone”. This will be Windsor’s South African overseas player’s thoughts and aims for the 2005 season.
For the first edition, I thought it best we review Danger’s first season with Windsor CC. The highs and lows, the triumphs and tribulations alongside the week to week activities of his freshman year.
On the field it was hard to ever question as to whether he was playing or not. A live wire whether batting or fielding, his impact was felt from the very first weekend as he blasted in at his new team mates in the sub-zero temps of the inter-club game.
In terms of match performances, he raised the bar for commitment. Whether it be pulling off spectacular catches, amazing run outs, ripping out a batsmen off-pole or trying to hit the ball to Datchet from C1, Justin gave it all and then some.
Something Justin also brought to Windsor CC was his unique ability to name every bat he used. Whether it be Kelly or Mary, they would get a severe talking to, if they’d let him down. Who will be his beloved this season?
The end of the game is just the start of the fun for Justin. Whether it be him fighting it out with Ramone Mohindru for the title of “The Best Dancer in the Club” or meeting and greeting Windsor’s ladies, Justin is always on his game.
So look out for the next edition of “The Danger Zone” as Justin shares his feelings about the season with his fellow members.

Windsor cleans up with Sanex
We are pleased to announce the great news that Sanex have become Windsor Cricket Clubs new sponsorship partner for 2005.
The deal, which comes into affect for the new season involves their logo appearing on the new kit and a large banner for the side of the pavilion. Also a pledge for £500.
To further assist the club, Sanex will be installing special sanitary dispensers in the showers and wash rooms at the club. It will save the need for the obligatory shower gel search after the game.
Potential further events involving Sanex may occur at the club during the coming season. With Sara Lee (the parent company) playing their cricket at Windsor, the scope is there for a lot more.

New season starts well for all sides
The 2004 season got underway in mostly damp and wet conditions but this hasn’t but a dampener on the tremendous start to the season by all sides. With five games of the TVL league played the current status of the sides is thus:

Satuday 1st XI – Currently lie in 2nd place just five points behind leaders North Maidenhead. Having lost the opening game of the season against Harefield they have bounced back with good wins against Marlow Park, Basingstoke and North Hampshire and High Wycombe. Their only blot being a nail biting 1 wicket loss to Thatcham Town. Highlights have been maiden league half centuries from Michael Gould, A century for Craig Bird and five wicket hauls for Justin Grainger and Wayne Spence.

Saturday 2nd XI – Also lie in 2nd place and remain undefeated after wins over OMT and Chalfont St Peter and high scoring draws in their other games. An unbeaten 135 from Tim Smith has been the highlight of the season so far but 3 half centuries in 5 games from Rob Noble, have helped the team climb into a healthy position.

Saturday 3rd XI – Another 2nd spot for the 3rd XI, who lost a nailbiting game against leaders Chiswick last weekend by just 5 runs. Captain Andy Wigley has certainly lead from the front with 2 five wicket hauls and a half century, backed up by Ben Lewis’ return of 5-24 and a half century from Ollie Saberton. They are 12 points clear of 3rd place.

Saturday 4th XI – Lie in 3rd position after playing just three games, winning 2 of these and losing the third. Scott Martin and Tim Houghton have both hit half centuries but dismissing opposition cheaply has helped the 4th XI with Royal Ascot and Marlow Park both being dismissed for under 100.

Sunday 1st XI – Brian Davis’ team have lost just once this season to local rivals Slough but have won healthily in all other games. The highlight for the team and club so far has been in their first league game vs Burnham with a 270 run partnership between Michael Gould (170) and Rob Noble (80). Wickets from Dahron Pitt and Amit Subarkher means a good season is looking in store for the Sunday 1’s.
Sunday 2nd XI – Gary Sanga’s side have been performing well this season despite losing their first league game vs Burnham. Heavy wins against GWR, Iver Heath and Twickenham has seen runs for Olly Smith, Tom Bullock and Rob Hodgson. The side has been bolstered by the return to competitive cricket of Ian Crawshaw.
Congratulations to all involved and hopefully with good availabilities and people staying injury free we can build on the success achieved so far together.

New website and Mailing list.

Our website at www.windsorcc.com has undergone a revamp for the new season and as such our mailing list details have now changed. The site is now editable by all the captains so they can put their match reports straight onto the site. If any captain does not know how to do this, please contact Chris Edge.
Together with the website we have also taken the opportunity to revamp the mailing list and we are no longer using the yahoogroups mailing list but one of our own. To post a message to the group, all that is required to do is send the message in an email to news@windsorcc.com. This will then be sent to all members of the club who are currently on Chris Smiths contact list. If you would like to be added to the list (or removed!) please email chris@1889internet.co.uk.

Players and Partners Game.

Following on from last years success, Friday 12th June sees the return of the Players and Partners game. For those unfamiliar this is male vs female game with a few alterations to the rules to even things up a little. Right handed male batsmen are required to bat left handed and vice versa, underm bowling is compulsory to women and in the true spirt of things each female ‘batsman’ is given a life before being dismissed. Last year the women won a very close game and will be looking to defend their title again this year.
The game is played in a very friendly manner and the drinks flow throughout. All are welcome to attend and play (meet at the Home Park at 6pm) and food is available after the match.

Club Photograph
The club are having an official photograph taken THIS SATURDAY 12th June. All members are requested to attend so that an entire group photo as well as individual team and portrait shots can be taken. Members of the local press have also been invited. However, as we have a very tight timescale all members should be dressed in full whites and be ready for the photo at 11.30am sharp. If you are late, then the photo will unfortunately have to be taken without you. The finished results will be mounted and placed in the clubhouse.

New sponsors
We are pleased to announce that club has secured two new sponsors for the 2004 season. They are The Elaichi Indian Restaurant on St Leonards Road where club members will receive a discount on their meal on production of their fixture card, and Apoyar Networks, an IT service provider for businesses who need cost effective, consistent and reliable IT support. We hope that you will support these companies where possible and thank them for their support of Windsor Cricket Club.

Andy Wigley Wins Single Wicket Competition
Andy Wigley was crowned single wicket champion after beating Tom Bullock in a well fought out final. An excellent days cricket was had by all, with some explosive batting and giant killing taking place throughout the day. Our thanks to Chris Smith for his superb organisation, Gary Sanga for running the bar and Jayne for a superb bbq!

Prague Cricket Tour
We now have 10 confirmed tourists with the possibility of a further 2 to be added for our cricket tour of Prague from Sunday 11th July to Friday 16th July. At 20/20 game against Prague Cricket Club will take place on Wednesday 14th. Anyone who would like to make a late booking please see Chris Edge for more details.

New Carpet installed in Clubhouse
Those who have been into the clubhouse in the last week cannot have failed to be impressed by the new carpet that has been laid. Bearing the club logo, it is now the centre piece of the clubhouse. Our thanks for those who worked hard to deliver and lay the carpet. From now on there will definitely be no spikes in the clubhouse!!!

Welcome to the new Season!

Although judging by the weather outside it may not seem like the cricket season, it’s time to get the kit down from the attic and discover pulled muscles you forgot you had as the start of the season marches quickly towards us!

This season marks an excellent chance to build upon the success of last season and we are boosted by the news the Justin Granger, a 21 year old South African of some repute will be joining us from Monday 12th April. Justin is currently in the U23 Easterns Academy and playing in the Premier League in Durban where he has currently taken 38 wickets at an average of just 14 and has a batting average of 41 in 11 matches. Batsmen of Division 1 be warned!!! Justin is a qualified cricket coach and will be willing to undertake private coaching sessions for colts and seniors alike upon his arrival. However, we are looking for any part time/seasonal work that Justin may take part in so if you know of any bar work/data entry type of work available, please let us know by sending an email to info@windsorcc.com.

We have also generated a lot of interest from new members who are keen to join us for the new season at all levels, many of which have already taken part in winter nets, and will be meeting many of you for the first time at nets and pre-season games. I’m sure you will make them all feel welcome and we hope that they enjoy their time at Windsor Cricket Club both on and off the field. As always are on the lookout for new members, so if you know of anyone in the local area who has an interest in cricket, by all means bring them along to pre season nets and introduce them to the club.

One notable absentee from last season will be Mark Huggins who has decided to join Maldern Wanders of the Surrey Championship. This is a great opportunity for Mark to bring his unique ‘talents’ to the top of the cricketing pyramid in the area, and he leaves with the best wishes of Windsor Cricket Club behind him. We hope he will pop in and see us from time to time, and if it doesn’t work out I’m sure Charles Light will welcome him back into the 4th XI with open arms! Best of luck Mark!

Off the field transformations have been taking place in the club pavilion. Many of you will have seen the new Calor Gas ‘blimp’ outside the outdoor nets; this provides heating for both the clubhouse and the new showers that have been installed in the changing rooms. In the clubhouse, new carpets and curtains are being installed in time for the new season, and the possibility of new furniture is still being considered (If you know of any pub clearance / job lot auctions please let us know!). Sky TV is now installed and can be watched in the main bar and Middleton room and will be showing a number of sporting events throughout the year including the Euro 2004 championships, so why not make use of the cheapest bar in town, and also help support your club!

Club Day – April 9th

Good Friday April 9th sees the Annual Club day in which we all take our turns at rolling up our sleeves and having a spring clean around the clubhouse. This involves the painting of sightscreens, changing rooms and repair of nets etc. in time for the coming season. All club members are expected to attend this event to lend their weight behind the many jobs need to be done around the club. All paint brushes, paint etc. will be provided – the more people that turn up, the quicker we get things done! The fun and games start from 10am.

Needless to say the bar will be open throughout, so there is no danger of anyone dying from thirst!

Inter Club Game April 17th

The annual curtain raiser to the new season, the inter club game will take place at the Home Park on Saturday April 17th. This fixture involves all members of the club with the sides being picked from the available pool of players. This is an excellent opportunity to have a look at new players who have joined the club, and for players to gently ease their way back into the swing of things. We also have friendly fixture vs Cranbourne on Sunday 18th April.

Prague Cricket Tour

In the past two seasons we have toured Holland and Ireland which have proved varied success ON the pitch but 100% success for the tourists who went on them OFF the pitch!! This year we have made preliminary contact with Prague Cricket Club and they are willing to host a touring party from Windsor this year. We have preliminary date of July 11th-16th. The approximate cost including flights and accommodation will be in the region of £130. However, we need to firm numbers and dates up very quickly. However, whilst their batsmen are still applying linseed oil to their bats and limbering up in pre season nets, the football arm of the club Windsor CC FC, are poised to challenge for a trophy after reaching the final of the Slough Town Cup after brushing aside Holland Park reserves 5-1 (Darren Ward (2), Tom Bullock, Chris Kenny, Dan Fraser) in the semi final last week.

The club, which was formed in 1992 to keep the cricketers active in the close season, could potentially field a team consisting entirely of past and current players of Windsor Cricket Club including player manager Danny Brown, second eleven captain Chris Edge and his vice captain Rob Noble.

The final is played on Wednesday April 14th at Burnham FC (Kick off 7.30pm) against Slough Heating Reserves after their win against Taplow FC.

Gatting 'Nose' Best

FORMER England cricket captain Mike Gatting has warned Windsor Boys’ School’s touring party set for Barbados to expect some tough competition, writes Gary Chappell.

Gatting was the guest speaker at a fund-raising dinner held at the Maidenhead-Road school on Saturday evening, attended by 180 people.

Gatting said: “Just remember, those cricketers love to win. If you want to compete then you will have to work hard, practice hard but at the same time enjoy yourselves.”

The dinner was organised to raise funds for a party of students to travel to Barbados under the tuition of players from Windsor CC, planned for Easter 2004. Included after the dinner was a raffle and auction of three shirts, including Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar’s jersey and a signed England top.

Gatting said: “I think it’s brilliant for the boys to travel like this. The first time I went away was back in 1976 to the West Indies and it was quite an eye opener.

“I have memories of arriving at the hotel and then running on to the beach and the sea was really warm – it’s like a totally different world.

“We didn't think that the weather could last, but it remained very sunny throughout the whole trip.

“It will be good for the children to learn about a different culture.”

During his after-dinner speech, Gatting told stories of his days as England captain, when he was smashed in the nose by a fast-bowler while on a tour of the West Indies.

He said: “There was still some bone stuck in the ball when they picked it up.

“Then I went to blow my nose, but blood came out of the top.”

Former pupil Richard Endacott, also a member of Windsor CC, presented Aussie Tristan O’Shannassey, with an award for all of his efforts at the club last season. O’Shannessey was the top wicket taker for the second XI in the Thames Valley league, finishing with 31 scalps to his name

Come Greyhound Racing at Oxford

To get some practice in for the club's race night on the 5th December, The next school cricket event is a trip to Oxford Greyhound Stadium, on Friday 14th November.

Tickets are £25 (+£5 for the coach), which includes entrance to the stadium, a 3 course meal, a race card and the sponsorship of a dog for the evening.

The coach leaves the school at 6p.m. and tickets can be bought from Richard Endacott.

Windsor Boys School Cricket Dinner

25th October 2003

Windsor Boys School are hosting what will hope to be an annual cricket dinner, with a 3 course meal, a guest speaker, a comedian and a raffle with major prizes.

In this first event we welcome Mike Gatting, former England Captain, who will know doubt spill the beans on the antics of a certain Ian Gould amongst others. Tickets are £25 and can be bought either individually or as part of a table of 10.

It would be great to see as many Windsor CC cricketers there as possible, to strengthen the link between the club and the school, as we attempt to turn Windsor Boys School into an academy of excellence which feeds into the club and makes us stronger.

All the Captains with the exception of Sangha have been outstanding this month in providing me with match reports.

This helps not only to give us extensive coverage in the local press, but also makes us one of the most up to date and informative cricket clubs in the country with regards to web-news.

Thanks to everyone and particularly to Edgy who has made it easier for each of us to update our news individually.

2004 Tour or Festival?

Hopefully this year will see another successful tour to foreign lands. However, next year we hope to get things organised as early as possible, so could you let any of the committee members know your feelings.

Possible tour venues include South Wales, Usk, Abertillery etc. or Yorkshire. Alternatively we can invite the teams we play in Ireland to visit Windsor next year and we recreate the old Windsor Cricket Festival, last played in 1994.

Another fixture added

Wednesday or Thursday of tour will see Windsor CC visiting Phoenix CC, who play in the picturesque Phoenix Park in the centre of Dublin. Therefore we will be visiting both Waterford and Dublin, enjoying the delights of both cities!

Anyone for cricket?
Richard Endacott, a member of Windsor Cricket Club in Berkshire, England, sent us an e-mail "to see if there are any cricket clubs who would be keen to play against us," when they undertake a short tour to the saturated south-east in early August.

"I have heard many great things about Waterford," he says, "and would welcome the opportunity to bring a group of cricketers to play and of course enjoy your renowned hospitality and the craic."

In return, "any interested clubs will be invited to take part in the 2004 Windsor Cricket Festival, which often welcomes sides from Holland and Italy and other such cricket 'hotspots'."

He's asked me to send his e-mail address (cynthia@endacott.fsworld.co.uk) on to any relevant cricket clubs and also point them in the direction of the Windsor club's very informative website - www.windsorcc.com

Given that I'm not exactly up to speed with Waterford's cricketing scene (as far as I know there's the Waterford Vikings Cricket Club, as well as The Glass, Dunmore East and Lismore), perhaps those familiar with the local LBW low-down at Ballinakill could pass on the message.

And, this is just a suggestion, but if 'The Windsors' do make it across, maybe Waterford Crystal, who were commissioned to cut a glass replica of the famous Ashes trophy a few years back, could stump up a suitable piece to mark the occasion. I'm sure the visitors would be bowled over.

Rain Jackets Available

If you would like one of the 'Forest green' Rain Jackets as modelled by Pete Thompson and Warren, then please add this to your form, they are provisionally £13 each, a bargain if you ask me. For a size guide, a large was ideal for me.

To be included in on the latest order, you need to get your forms to Wazza by this weekend please. Everything apart from the jumpers will take about 2 weeks.

Caribbean Cocktail Evening
Saturday 6th June 2003

There is a caribbean cocktail night planned for this Saturday night. A bar-b-q will be sizzling and Dave Condon will be putting together a fine array of cocktails which will put Charley's Horse to shame. (although they do have better looking bar staff). Events kick off after the cricket has come to an end, if anybody has any caribbean cds, grass skirts and dodgy shirts please feel free to bring them along!!!

Battle of The Sexes

This Friday (30/5) at the Home Park, sees the inaugural Girls vs Boys match. The weather is destined to be perfect and with £3 for 2 bottles of Barcadi Breezer, you have no excuse not to come down and see the girls show the boys how it's done. Rumour has it the girls have employed the services of a ringer.

Festivities kick off at 6pm.

Berkshire Evening Knock Out Cup

North Maidenhead have pulled out of the competition due to other cup commitments and so therefore we have recieved a bye from this round. We will play the winners of Emmbrook & Bearwood vs Sandhurst, to be played no later than Friady 20th June.

Recent Website Problems

Hopefully, these have now been ironed out and the site should be functioning properly. The content management system is up and running properly so all captains can now update team news and reports (let me know if you have forgotten how to do this!). A new (again!) messageboard has been put in place based on the more popular threaded message system. There is also new player profile's updated for Tim Smith, Damien Bradbury and Sarah Frost. Fell free to update your profile if it is now out of date. Apart from the contacts list, which should be updated shortly, if you see any glaring mistakes can you let me know so that I can change them.

With the change of domain name to windsorcc.com some people may still be trying to access the old .co.uk. This domain name will not be available for about 5 weeks, so if you could spread the word about the new www.windsorcc.com site, it would be most appreciated.

Tour to Dublin 2003?

I have made approaches to 4 Cricket Clubs in Dublin regarding playing them in either the first or second weeks in August. These clubs are Cym-Terenure CC, Phoenix CC, Sandyford CC and YMCA CC. The latter of which is coached by Shahid Afridi.

I currently have a list of 7 definites and 2 possibles (following a straw poll in the Vansittarrt Arms on Bank Holiday Monday). if you would be interested i going please contact me rich_endacott@hotmail.com asap.

Once I have confirmed numbers and fixtures, I will look into accomodation in Dublin. I have asked the clubs concerned to help us out with this side of things.

CLUB WORKING PARTY

Andy Wigley is organising a working day on Friday April 18th to spruce up the changing areas etc in time for the new season. Wiggers requests that anyone with any spare ladders, brushes, etc bring them down as ceilings and tops of sightscreens need to be reached. The fun starts at 11am, and all players are requested to attend even if they can only spare an hour or two. Remember: 'More hands make light work!'

Hounslow innings declared closed

Hounslow CC have sensationally resigned from the Thames Valley League after it became apparent they would be unable to fulfil their fixtures for 2003. Due to the demise of Hounslow Cricket Club, the Thames Valley league have decided to make divisions 1, 5a and 7, 9 teams only.

that means that 1st, 3rd and 4th XI's will face 2 Saturdays without League Cricket. The dates are as follows
1st Xi - June 7th, August 9th
3rd Xi - July 5th, September 6th
4th Xi - May 10th (1st game), July 12th.

The issues regarding promotion and relegation remain the same. They seem to be relying on new members and the relegation issues from the Home Counties League, to resolve their numeracy problem in time for the 2004 season. Please see attached press release from tvlcricket.demon.co.uk

Fresh Challenge for Mid-Week Cricket

Due to the high amount of interest in the Farnham Royal Knockout Trophy, Windsor CC will for the first time be entering into the Berkshire Mid-week Knockout Trophy, providing more chances for those who want to play cricket in the week.

The Farnham Royal tournament which has seen entries from Windsor & Eton and Windsor Victoria Cricket Clubs, years before the amalgamation in 1995, will remain the priority of the club. However, this new competition does give us another opportunity for
silverware along with the carrot of prize money of £200 for the winner.

Carol Bullock

It is with great sadness, that I have to report the passing of Carol Bullock, wife of Phil and Mother to Andrew and Thomas, following a long fight with cancer.

Carol was the archetypal cricket widow, allowing Phil to play every Sunday aswell as organise the Windsor & Eton Colts section. Carol would also spend many weekday evenings and Sunday mornings ferrying not only Andy and Tom to their colts matches, but also provide transport for the likes of Andy Shields and myself which allowed us to play our cricket.

Carol was laid to rest at Slough Crematorium and it was warming to see so many club players and members at the service, showing to the family the high regard we held for Carol. On behalf of Windsor Cricket Club, I offer our sincerest condolences to Phil and the boys.

Red Rose Tandoori add spicy incentive.

The Red Rose Tandoori in Victoria Street have kindly agreed to renew their sponsorship of Windsor Cricket Club for the 2003 season.

In a break from tradition, however the Red Rose will provide a free ‘Sunday Special’ to the individual voted ‘Player of the Week’. The individual tasked with choosing the player of the week has yet to be sorted out, but it is likely to be either Deri, Smithy or Kitch. All of these are susceptible to bribery of the alcoholic variety.

New Players

It’s good to see that the new players to the club have fitted in like a hand into one of Nobseys batting gloves.

So a big welcome to Rob, aka Joely’s mate, to Matty Walklett and Tim Smith aka Alfie Moon, the Moon Dog, Moon shine, Alfred etc. No doubt his non-cricket playing mate Button Moon will will also enjoy the special hospitality enjoyed here at Windsor.

We are continuing to welcome new players to the club, so if you know of any cricketers who want to join then please let either myself or Dez know.

Cricket Festival

Our esteemed Chairman Mr Kitching, is currently undertaking a feasibility study as to whether we can rekindle the old Windsor Cricket Festival, last held here in 1994 (which incidentally was won by Windsor & Eton CC).

The basic theory is a four day tournament involving teams from around the country and maybe overseas. In the past we have welcomed teams from Durham, the Black Country in the Midlands., Holland and Italy.

Please let me know if you can take time off during August to play in at least one if not all the games over 4 days. If we get the numbers then we will get it on.
